About Mirror Worlds

The MirrorWorlds exhibition was the folio component of a Master of Fine Art degree. A component of the work lives on as an online tour and souvenir shop. The project contemplated the power dynamics involved with internet-connected device co-dependency, coupled with insidious surveillance and analysis.  It looked at how these dynamics have led to the development of and mainstreaming of behaviour modification technologies by private corporations, directed at technology users. I drew on the concept of ‘world-making’ as a mode of artistic practice, to generate an interdisciplinary and immersive viewing experience. The work played with and mirrored, ways in which screens and internet-connected devices augment presence in space and time, and how engagement with these multi-dimensional spaces can both challenge and uphold established power dynamics. MirrorWorlds gently asks viewers to consider their own relationships with their digital devices and the worlds that they provide access to. MirrorWorlds is made up of four smaller bodies of work, which can be viewed below.
